Live companion animals have many benefits, however they can be hard to care for. Joy for All, a division of toymaker Hasbro, has developed a realistic robotic companion with the ability to interact and mimic the behavior of dogs and cats. By minimizing the risks of a live animal and maximizing the ability to stimulate cognition through the senses, robotic pets can give a loved one living with dementia a heart-captivating experience.
Exciting news: Long Island Alzheimer's and Dementia Center recently adopted a few robotic pets for ourselves! See above pictures of our very own robotic dog, Chow Chow, and cat, Marie. Our participants love to pet and cuddle our new furry friends! Sensory stimulation from Chow Chow and Marie evoke so many smiles, and overall help make a positive impact here at Long Island Alzheimer's and Dementia Center.
