Meet the Interns of the LIAD Center

EMILY TROYD

Adelphi University
Currently holds a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and achieving a Masters Degree in Social Work.

"After I graduate, I hope to work with the geriatric’s population, possibly specializing in Dementia/Alzheimer’s disease. I feel the work in this field makes a difference in other’s lives, and it is very rewarding. At the LIAD Center, I enjoy engaging in games and interacting with the clients hands-on. The diagnosed individuals in the LIAD Center’s programs have so much valuable input about life and always make me laugh. Outside of my internship, I enjoy yoga, running, as well as taking my Australian Cattle dog, Ella, to the dog park."


GIA MANNONE

Stony Brook University
Currently holds a Bachelors Degree of Science in Health & Wellness and achieving a Masters Degree in Social Work.

"After I graduate, I would like to work with older adults/seniors with neurodegenerative diseases. I like this field because I can be supportive to those in need – it’s incredibly rewarding to watch clients smile as they grow and reach accomplishments. At the LIAD Center, I like being able to form connections with the clients as well as with their families. I enjoy learning about the client’s interests and backgrounds and conversing with them. I’ve heard so many great stories! Outside of my internship, I enjoy traveling and discovering food restaurants. Every _____ I volunteer with a nonprofit organization and by attending their annual national convention I visit a new city and state each year. I also enjoy searching for unique food places, whether it be different in where it’s located or what’s on the menu!

SABRINA KATZ

Adelphi University
Achieving a Bachelors Degree in Social Work.

"After I graduate, I would like to work with high school students, helping them succeed, interact and overall help to improve the wellbeing of young adults. At the LIAD Center, I enjoy assisting the program participants accomplish small goals and create new friendships. Outside of my internship, I enjoy soul cycle and listening to music. 

Fun Fact: My favorite type of drink is coffee – iced with almond milk!"


ELISA PATITUCCI

Adelphi University
Achieving a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Criminal Justice.

"After I graduate, I would like to become a clinical social worker in a hospital or school to work with families and children. Later, I would like to attend law school. At the LIAD Center, I like to interact with the program participants and learning from them. Interning at the LIAD Center has allowed me to grow as an individual. Outside of my internship, I enjoy exercising (specifically at Orange Theory) and spending time with my family and friends.

Fun Fact: My favorite type of food is sushi, and at home with my family I speak Italian."

At the Long Island Alzheimer's and Dementia Center, our mission is to improve the quality of life for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and related forms of dementia, and their caregivers. We actively work to achieve this mission through research-based programming for all stages of Alzheimer’s, Caregiver Support Groups, in-home respite solutions, transportation options, and additional services.
