Bravo’s Project Runway Star to Make Appearance and Design at LIAD Center’s Luncheon Event

At this year’s Long Island Alzheimer’s & Dementia Center’s Annual Women’s Luncheon & Fashion Show, Bravo’s Project Runway star, ShaVi Lewis, will be making an appearance as well as creating an original design to be auctioned.

“ShaVi Lewis’ connection with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia through his grandmother has had a profound effect on this leading fashion designer. We are so moved by his generosity and support for our fundraising event,” said Tori Cohen, Executive Director of the Long Island Alzheimer & Dementia Center. “Sadly, ShaVi’s story is one we hear every day at the LIAD Center. He shared that his grandmother taught him how to sew at an early age, playing a significant role in what he does today. The unique, original design that he will design for the event’s auction will be an amazing tribute to his grandmother and directly help benefit other diagnosed individuals that utilize the LIAD Center’s hands-on programs.”

ShaVi Lewis appeared on the most recent season of Project Runway and is a strong advocate of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. “Seeing my grandmother’s condition grow overtime made me realize it's important to use what we were taught to help those that may have forgotten,” says Lewis. “I believe early awareness and treatment are key for the families of those diagnosed to aid in the education of how to adjust to this disease, and what it will mean for their loved one. Having someone you love losing the memories that you created together is hard, so I was elated to be asked to design a piece in tribute to my grandmother, the creativity that she helped me to explore, and the future which she encouraged me to pursue.”

ShaVi Lewis, founded in 2002, is a limited luxury brand with a strong focus on women’s cocktail and evening attire. His passion began at the age of seven years old, as he assisted his Grandmother while she created garments for clients. ShaVi has been a featured designer for Sephora’s “Fashion’s Night Out” Event, debuted a preview collection during New York Fashion Week, and his fashion been seen at the Raw Artists NYC "Discovery" Showcase, the Bermuda Fashion Festival and on the Emmy Red Carpet.

The Long Island Alzheimer’s & Dementia Center’s Annual Women’s Luncheon & Fashion Show will be April 24th, 2020 at the North Hempstead Country Club in Port Washington. To learn more about registration and sponsorship opportunities, contact Danielle Schwartzberg at dschwartzberg@lidementia.org.
