General Summary:
This position reports directly to the Respite Director. The respite companions are responsible for developing an individualized activities plan for each of their participants with input from the participant and caregiver. The activities are to be provided in the participant’s home. Companions visit families for two hours, every other week. Each two-hour session should include, if possible, an appropriate physical activity (walk, movement, dance, exercise, etc.) and activities providing cognitive stimulation. Companions do not provide hands-on care. Position is Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Access to own vehicle is mandatory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Respite companions need to arrive for their visits in a timely fashion. Caregivers are dependent upon the timely arrival of companions in order to attend activities outside the home. If it appears that you are going to be late for your scheduled appointment, please call the family and your supervisor.
- Respite companions are responsible for providing exercise, socialization, arts and crafts activities, and cognitive stimulation for the Alzheimer’s participants in a safe manner.
- In developing and planning the activities factors such as the participant’s cultural background, occupation, level of cognitive, physical and communication abilities, hobbies, and past and present interests should be considered. Above all, activities should be fun and enjoyable.
- Respite companions are responsible for completing progress notes for each visit. Any changes in participant status should be noted. Respite companions should inquire of the caregiver if any changes have occurred since the last visit (falls, hospitalizations, behavioral changes (i.e.: wandering), etc.). Changes should be noted. Notes should be submitted to the Respite Director on a weekly basis.

- Respite companions should be on the lookout for any safety issues or concerns in and about the home. Issues or concerns should be discussed with the caregiver and reported to the Respite Director.
- Respite companions should be aware of the signs of elder abuse and neglect. Any potential concerns should be reported immediately to the Respite Director and/or Executive Director.
- Safety is paramount. Respite participants should never be left unattended. Respite companions should not leave the home until a caregiver has returned.
- If an accident or emergency occurs, the respite companion needs to follow LIAF emergency procedures and an incident report needs to be completed and the Respite Director notified immediately.
- Respite companions are required to participate in training sessions as scheduled, including but not limited to: Elder Abuse and Neglect, Emergency Procedures and Incident Reporting, Participant Confidentiality, Orientation to the Respite Program (Policies and Procedures including grievance and contribution policies), Communicating Effectively with Individuals with Dementia, and Psycho-social needs of participants.
- Respite companions shall maintain professional behavior/attitude while on duty as a LIAF employee. Remember that you are a guest in the respite family’s home. Companions will not exhibit or engage in behaviors that would reflect a negative image of the individual being served, their families, or LIAF.
- Respite companions must have reliable transportation to get to and from respite visits. A safe driving record is required for maintenance of the position. Respite companions are not permitted to transport respite clients or their caregivers in their private vehicles.
- Respite companions must demonstrate the knowledge and ability to promote the dignity, well being and individuality of the Alzheimer’s individual.
- Respite companions must maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Respite companions shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with the Alzheimer’s participant, family members, fellow LIAD employees, and other professionals.
- The respite companion must be a high school graduate or possess a GED.
- It is preferable that the respite companion should have previous experience in caring for someone with a disability, dementia, or the elderly. Bilingual workers are strongly encouraged to apply. Needs to be proficient in English.

Full-time, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, Partially remote in homes in Nassau County only and partially on-site in Westbury, NY, as home-base.

The Marketing & Community Engagement Manager is responsible for maintaining and contributing to a development team, which encompasses overall strategic marketing for LIAD, donor development, annual campaigns, and signature events. The Community Engagement and Marketing Manager works in collaboration with the Director of Special Events and Community Outreach, key staff, and vendors to develop, implement and monitor the performance of annual, integrated marketing plans with motive to advance the organization’s services, events, mission and priority issues.
This position reports directly to the Executive Director with a dotted line to the Director of Special Events and Community Outreach for all marketing and social media management for LIAD’s signature events. This position requires the regular exercise of independent judgement and discretion.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Marketing
- Compose/design and distribute engaging written and graphic content for monthly e-newsletters, web page, blog, and social media messages
- Ensure brand consistency in marketing and social media messages
- Compose/design marketing and social media campaigns and strategies, including content ideation, subscriber outreach, budget planning and implementation schedules
- Analyze customer data and reports, and use this information to improve future marketing strategies and campaigns
- Report campaign plans and progress to Directors and Board
- Research and monitor activity of organization competitors
- Design material & strategize for all events, including graphics, flyers, social media content, web page, videos, PowerPoints, registration page, signs, and invitations
- Collaborate with other departments to manage reputation, identify key programs and coordinate actions, ex. CEU
- Work with the development team and vendors on production of both print and digital marketing and promotional materials including brochures, ads, donation appeals, e-blasts, and news articles
- Work with third-party marketing firm to create a strategic marketing plan for the year and meet weekly
- Update and maintain the LIAD Center’s website, with support from third-party marketing firm
- Generate, edit, publish and share daily content (original text, images, video or HTML) that build meaningful connections and encourages community involvement
- Create and implement an organized schedule for promotions and posts
- Grow and expand presence into new and existing social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram
- Maintain online relations with customers by organizing and developing specific customer relations programs and respond to outreach
- Assist the Director of Special Events and Outreach in managing signature events and third-party fundraisers with set up prior to the event, day of event and event breakdown
- In the month leading up to the event, prepare the squares for raffles and pack and prepare all marketing materials needed for the event
- Generate, edit and publish all social media promotions, advertisements, printed material, e-blasts, web page and registration page for events
- Prior to the event, create a looping PowerPoint, oversee AV the day of the event with the vendors (including mic set up, sound and music) and work with third-party marketing firm to produce honoree videos or videos related to the event.
- Work closely with the marketing team and other vendors to ensure that all materials (both print and online, including on the website and social media) are consistent, compelling, and effectively support event efforts
- Research and connect with potential partners and vendors to expand relationships with the LIAD Center and the community; help identify opportunities to strengthen existing relationships with the LIAD Center
- Draft & distribute press releases for events and campaigns
- Attend and participate in networking groups with the goal to develop relationships for LIAD which results in their attendance or sponsorships for all signature events
- Attend local “tabling” events in conjunction with Director of Special Events and Community Outreach, key staff members or alone. Display LIAD materials, present LIAD Power Point, as needed, and provide information about LIAD on behalf of the organization to the community

- Knowledge of the LIAD Center in order to effectively speak with donors and outside organizations at outreach events

- Must be proficient with applications such as: Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Possess understanding of WordPress, Donor Perfect, Canva, Constant Contact, Asana, Google Sheets, Hootsuite, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. CRM experience is a plus
- Submission of portfolio of design work and writing sample
- Four to six years of experience in community relations, outreach, public relations, marketing, and/or related professional experience
